Pros and cons of the quickie, By Tanya Enberg, Sun Media
With a pinch of no-holds barred desire, great things can happen quickly, if you're willing to let them. Can you spare a minute?
Sometimes life calls for a quickie.
The alarm clock is buzzing, morning coffee brewing and a hectic, hair-pulling day lies ahead. You have less than a half hour to shower, eat, get dressed and out the door . . . and he's woken up with some serious tent action down under.
This, dear readers, calls for a quickie.
Why rush a good thing, you ask?
Because when in a time-pinch, this raw, animalistic ritual is an amazingly fun and effective way to release those happy, stress-busting chemicals and leave you with time to spare.
Bad news is, when it comes to quickie sex, gals -- even ones who love every blissful second of it -- may come out shortchanged in the "Big O" department. Fact is, when he's ready to call wrap and zip up, she's likely just beginning to warm up.
That said, a quickie can be mutually mind-blowing for you both. With a pinch of no-holds barred desire, great things can happen quickly, if you're willing to let them.
TAKE A POSITION:
You've long since mastered the Missionary. The T-Square and the Wheelbarrow are old hat. You've tested out the Kama Sutra's Suspended Congress and have done it "doggy-style" like it's going out of style.
But with some 600 documented sexual positions, you've likely still got a few to try.
Make the most of the quickie by test driving new moves rather than relying on the same old, go-to positions.
This is a great time to bend the body in ways you've only dreamed of and start looking at the "props" around you in a different light. Suddenly the kitchen table isn't just for serving up breakfast and the recliner starts getting more action than it does during the playoffs.
LOCATION ...
Unplanned sex in unexpected spots adds the kind of serious intensity that can rival even the hottest of porn-star scenarios.
But, before dropping your drawers in a darkened movie theatre, a little planning is advised. While some people get off on the risk of potentially being caught, the majority don't crave exhibitionist status.
One former boyfriend and I waited for a group of boaters to finish up lunch and leave so we could take advantage of having a daylight rendezvous against a massive rock surface in an area flourishing with trees and wildlife.
Sure, the slab of rock was a tad too hard, but it was a thrilling adventure nonetheless.
Choose your own location. Maybe an elevator or stairwell, in the back of the car or a restaurant washroom but, wherever it happens, allow your inner animal to roam wild.
THE ART OF THE QUICKIE:
You don't have to start off in the mood, but you will need to get there in a hurry. Understand that taking an instant gratification approach to sex won't always fly and sometimes you'll need to bust out your best seductive moves through touch, dirty talk, fantasy swapping, deep kissing, or any other technique that has proved successful in the past.
Quickies don't wait for the perfect moment. The moment is in the here and now, wherever and whenever that happens to be.
WHEN IT WORKS:
Let's face it, sometimes we're pulling our hair out trying to get everything done. With all our day-to-day juggling, our sex lives can take a major hit. When you just can't seem to find the time for leisurely lovemaking, a quick-hit may be the solution. Faster than brewing a pot of coffee (heck, you can do the deed while waiting for it to finish), squeezing in a short and sweet session will boost your mood, reduce stress, leave you feeling energized and help you reconnect. And, as an added bonus, there's barely any hard work involved.
BE BRAVE
Having a ravenous rendezvous won't always be perfect. You may not have run a comb through your hair, brushed your teeth, and might be feeling about as sexy as Britney Spears after her head-shaving rampage, but if you're able to allow your self-consciousness to slide for a minute or two (and, as Nike famously says, 'Just do it') it's well worth the pay off.
Note though: Quickies shouldn't replace your regular sex life, they should supplement it.
QUICKIE PITFALLS:
When getting in and out in a hurry, one major missing ingredient is romance. Having a quickie is kind of like diving right in for the chocolate cake before enjoying the main dish, but if you can accept that great romantic gestures and prolonged lead ups aren't essential for sex-on-the-fly, then get down and dirty.
The goal here isn't lovemaking, but even so, a quick fix can be intimate, meaningful and lust-filled (and it will help keep a smile on your face long afterwards)!
